This 1.75" hard enamel pin is of NASA-ESA-CSA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)! Currently scheduled to be launched atop an Ariane 5 rocket on October 31st 2021 it will position itself near the Earth-Sun L2. The huge sunshield will allow the main part of the infrared telescope to function at very low temperatures. The primary mirror is made of 18 hexagonal beryllium segments, each covered in a very thin layer of gold. It will be able to observe in long-wavelength visible light through mid-infrared light, allowing it to see very old and distant objects that cannot be observed by Hubble. This amazing piece of technology will bring many more discoveries about our universe!
